It’s now scratched, one over the other, on the blackboard, the chalky markings,\u00a0as if made from Ben Franklin’s own quill.\u00a0They’re exasperatingly dichotomous in their arguing.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I can’t stand it. You know I can’t stand that sound!\u00a0That sound, it’s so exasperating! It’s like fingernails on the blackboard. Oh, it’s just intolerable!<\/span><\/p>\n

JAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Crimes in the Crimea. When Ben entered, when he entered the Crimea he found no criminals, but only aristocrats with proletarian habits.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m telling you, when I saw what had been committed,\u00a0the offenses, it was as if my eyeballs themselves were screaming.<\/span><\/p>\n

JAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

And I marched them, as only Attila the Hun can march,\u00a0Ne’er-do-wells and evildoers.\u00a0Marched them into the calico dresses that the must wear to be penitent.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

You see that sign there, in the gloom,\u00a0where it says “EXIT” in clearly marked red letters?\u00a0I would suggest that, as we march, we all head in that direction.<\/span><\/p>\n

JAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I know somebody that lives down that way.\u00a0We can stop in for a quick brunch.\u00a0I know the kind of Nabisco light crackers that will be offered.\u00a0They will remind us that we’ve not always been in a penitentiary.\u00a0We have sometimes been at an afternoon Tea.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The mildness of the alkaline cocoa which is served there,\u00a0and these cocoa-flavored crackers, which are exactly the same flavor as the cocoa we’re drinking,\u00a0so that you could crumple them into your cup, and you wouldn’t notice any disruption.\u00a0It would all be one floating, cloud-like mildness.<\/span><\/p>\n

JAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Clear beverages.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Clear soup with shiny, translucent noodles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quills. Pens. Phonograph needles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Delicate, precise instruments that touch things, and suddenly, everything is displayed, as if on a kind of display device.<\/span><\/p>\n

JAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I have finger-touch control on the knobs of your feeling state.<\/span><\/p>\n

DAVID<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’d like to know, if you’re so well connected with the sources which control the flow,\u00a0if you could make a slight adjustment,\u00a0so that the roof of my head would fan out a bit wider.<\/span><\/p>\n

JAMES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
